Happy April! We don’t know about you, but it seems like it was just yesterday that we were thinking of our New Year’s resolutions and reflecting on how we want to better our lives in the coming year.
Now we’re at the end of the First Quarter, headed into the Second Quarter and you may be reflecting on what goals you set for your business during this Quarter and what goals you’re going to set for yourself in the coming Quarter.
Before you go any further, here’s some topics for you to mull over:
What goals did you start working on that still needs your attention? Did anything change, or did you encounter any roadblocks that may have stopped you from progressing on those goals? Has your business’ dynamics and needs changed in the past Quarter? What goals have you accomplished thus far, and have you taken time to celebrate those wins?
Having clarity when it comes to your business is invaluable so we implore you to take some time and answer those questions before proceeding. When you’re ready, here are 3 ways for you to prepare for a successful Second Quarter.
Take Time to Review and Make Room for Adjustments
If you answered the questions we asked earlier in this post then you’re already halfway there! Every successful entrepreneur knows the value of setting goals. And while quarterly goals help to make things more digestible, it’s always a good idea to look at your yearly goals to ensure that your quarterly goals will put you in a position to achieve those longer term goals.
So, how are you doing on those goals that you set earlier in the year? What steps have you taken to clear those roadblocks that prevented you from completing some of the goals you set for yourself in the First Quarter? Who do you need to call, what do you need to sign and when do you need to file to get it done?
Do you feel stuck because there’s too much to do? No worries, maybe it’s time to get some support. Check out our post on 5 Ways to Know That You Need a Virtual Assistant. Prioritize your peace in the Second Quarter, make sure you add that to your goals!
To reduce stress, we like to remind ourselves that goals are flexible and are liable to change. So if you’re looking at some of your goals and your First Quarter is saying that goal may be unrealistic, remind yourself that you have the ability to change and adjust your goals so that they don’t stress you out.
Alternatively, if you had a goal that you wanted to accomplish by this Summer and you haven’t gotten started on it yet then it’s time to refocus on those goals and put some more energy towards them.
Read through your list of goals, adjust, revise and cross the ones off the list that you’ve completed. You may be surprised about how much you’ve accomplished in the past few months.
Create Actionable Next Steps
After reviewing and readjusting it’s time to start looking towards the future. Perhaps you set some goals that were a little too big for your britches, let’s not make the same misstep moving forward.
Creating actionable steps are what helps big goals seem less daunting. By creating specific small steps to take action on weekly, you can make sure that you stay on track to meet those goals at the end of the quarter.
For example, let’s say that you want to climb a mountain. You’re not going to just hop on a plane and go climb Mt. Fuji! You need to break down that goal into smaller steps.
So, what does that look like? Well, to climb that mountain you’d first want to come up with a consistent workout schedule to condition your body to be ready for that type of exertion. Then you’d want to start thinking about what you’d bring with you on the trip. Watching videos of those that have done it before, compiling lists and materials so that you can survive the journey. Possibly even reaching out to others who have the same goal and team up with them to stay motivated and to make the journey more enjoyable. Once all of those actions have been taken then you’re ready to tackle that mountain.
Move Forward with Confidence
Now that you have clarity on what went wrong, and what went oh so right last quarter, you can move forward with a renewed sense of confidence.
When you’re feeling confident within yourself you’re more likely to take action on your goals. You’re more likely to hold yourself accountable for meeting the goals you’ve set, especially when those goals have been broken down into smaller steps that you know you’re capable of actualizing.
Now is the time to take action on your Second Quarter goals. You’ve learned so much this past Quarter, it’s time to apply what you’ve learned and get excited for what the future holds for you and your business.
This is also a good time to reach out to your past and potential clients to keep them in the loop of what updates and innovations you’re imploring the use of in the coming months, and to keep your business on the forefront of their mind.
